NAGPUR: She was running temperature, stranded at the railway station with no one to take care. He seemed a Godsend. He took her to home where a woman stayed alone and also treated her well even getting her medical assistance. But Karuna (name changed) later discovered that inside the Good Samaritan lurked a rapist and thief.

Mohammed Jaffer Hussain, 40, was arrested by Lakadganj police for alleged rape, abduction, threatening and theft. Apart from raping Karuna, Hussain apparently also stole cash Rs 3,065 from the purse of the sick woman.

Hussain, who pulls rickshaw, had urged Karuna to come with him as some miscreants were waiting to harm her. She believed his words but later realized they were a trap. Karuna reached Lakadganj police station with the help of some local youths to lodge a complaint. Police promptly picked up Hussain.

Karuna was going to Satna in Madhya Pradesh when she fell ill. She had come to meet a relative at Gondia around a month ago. She came to Itwari railway station from Gondia to board a train to Satna. But she was suffering from high fever. Karuna decided to rest outside the reservation centre.

Hussain apparently approached her promising her help. He brought her to a place where a woman, identified as Purnima Shingewarche, was staying. It is learnt Hussain had a relation with the woman with whom Karuna was asked to stay.

On Saturday afternoon, Hussain came to the room and tried to rape her but she managed to free herself. Hussain did not spare her for too long. He savaged her after two hours leaving the sick woman distraught. Karuna later realized that Hussain had also taken away cash from her purse. She left the room where she was kept and raised an alarm. Karuna was taken to the police station by some local residents. It is learnt that police took Purnima's help to trace Hussain from Itwari railway station.
