MUMBAI: Frustrated over his unrequited love, a Chembur-based hotel owner allegedly sought revenge by kidnapping the woman's 12-year-old sister and four-month-old nephew, and then raping the minor girl at a hotel. The Nagpada police cracked the case within 24 hours and arrested the accused, Monu Sachdev (25), on Tuesday night.

According to the police, Sachdev, who owns Rani Restaurant Hotel, was in love with a bargirl, Nandini, for the past few years. Nandini (22), who is now employed at Priya Bar in Byculla, first met Sachdev when she had moved to Mumbai. She came to the city from Jaipur along with her two younger sisters in search of work.

Sachdev was besotted with Nandini and would often profess his love for her, said an officer. Nandini, however, was already in a relationship with someone else and turned down his proposal each time. She, however, continued her friendship with Sachdev and he would often visit her place, the officer said.

A few months ago, Nandini moved to Nagpada with her sisters to be closer to her place of work. Meanwhile, her second sister, Jhanvi (21) also took up work as a bargirl in Priya Bar after she separated from her husband to support her son.

On Monday night, Sachdev was in Nagpada for some work, the police said. He called Nandini's youngest sister, Prerna (name changed) and asked her to come with her for a drive. Prerna was alone at home with the boy while her sisters were at work at that time. As Sachdev had been good friends with the family for long, Prerna didn't suspect anything. She went with Sachdev, taking the boy along. Sachdev drove off to Sanpada and took the children to a hotel, where he allegedly raped Prerna repeatedly.

When Jhanvi returned home on Tuesday morning, she was shocked to find her son and sister missing. She lodged a complaint with the Nagpada police. According to inspector Nitin Shinde, the sisters didn't suspect Sachdev initially. However, on checking Prerna's phone records, the cops found that Sachdev's was the last call she had received. Acting on a tip-off, a team of officers nabbed Sachdev. They also rescued Prerna and the boy from the hotel. Sachdev has been remanded in police custody till October 11.
