PANAJI: A 30-year-old man was arrested by Agasaim police on charges of attempting to kidnap a one-and-half year old girl from her residence on Thursday evening.
The minor's father, Mohammad Mustaf from Goa Velha, complained that on Thursday at 7pm, the accused person, Siraj alias Patil Chettri from Nepal, attempted to kidnap his minor daughter, from the custody of her parents.
Police said that the child was at home with the mother when the incident happened.
"The mother was in the kitchen when the accused entered the house and tried to escape with the girl. She raised an alarm and neighbours caught hold of the accused," said a police official.
The accused was beaten up by the people and then handed over to the police.
Police said that the motive behind the accused's attempt to kidnap the minor is not yet known. "We have sent the accused for medical examination. Also, tests are being conducted on him at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior as he has been behaving in an abnormal manner," the police official told TOI.Link: Man held for abducting minor girl at Agasaim
