Apr 08, 2012: 9 employees suspended in minor girl’s rape case

ALLAHABAD: With condemnation against the reported rape of three minor inmates of Government Children Home for Girls, Shivkuti pouring in from all quarters, a harried district administration swung into the damage control mode by ordering suspension of 9 employees of Government Children Home for Girls, Shivkuti where the ghastly incident took place.


Speaking to newspersons chief development officer(CDO) and officiating district magistrate(DM) B Chandrakala said that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the whole incident which is being conducted by additional city magistrate II Praveena and guilty would not go unpunished.


On the other hand drawing a lesson from the incident, the administration has decided not to post any male employee at either of the two institutions including the Government Children Home for Girls in Shivkuti and Government Home for Girls in Mumfordgunj. While the former houses girls under 10 years, latter accomodates girls aged 11 years and above.


Meanwhile while talking to newspersons, the inquiry officer and additional city magistrate(ACM II) Parveena said that "While conducting preliminary investigations into the whole case and during the course of interaction with the inmates, it has come to light that some more girls also faced harassment at the hands of the said peon who is now in police custody.


When the views of district probation officer(DPO), Ila Pant were sought on the issue she told TOI, that "I have also received reports about the supension of the employees but the suspension letters are yet to come".Three minor inmates of Government Children Home for Girls, Shivkuti had reported sexual assault by a class four employee who was subsequently arrested by the local police. Besides this suspension was also recommended against the superintendant, Urmila Gupta by DPO.


Demanding security for the minor girls and imposition of National Security Act(NSA) against those reponsible for the above incident, senior Congress leader Tariq Saeed said that the district administration should appoint fresh staff at both the institutions and post only female employees.He also handed over a memorandum to ADM, Finance demanding a high level inquiry and action against the guilty persons.
