May 5, 2012: Rape victim dies of cardiac arrest

MYSORE: An elderly woman died of cardiac arrest on Friday, four days after she was allegedly raped by a ragpicker. She was being treated at Krishna Rajendra Hospital for the past three days 

Gangamma, 75, who was running a petty shop in Vijayanagar, was allegedly raped on the night of April 30. 

According to police, three men, claiming that they were police, knocked at the door of her petty shop and sought drinking water. When she opened the door, one of them barged inside and allegedly raped her, while the other two stood guard outside. 

Cops are yet to identify the culprits. 

Mysore Medical College and Research Institute dean and KR Hospital medical superintendent Dr Geetha Avadhani said Gangamma, who was under treatment at the hospital, was shifted to ICU after she experienced chest pain at 9.30am on Friday. But she died of cardiac arrest an hour later.
