MUMBAI: The Jogeshwari police on Tuesday registered an FIR against a 55-year-old party worker (name withheld) for allegedly raping a 32-year-old homemaker after sedating her food. The accused committed the offence at RK Hotel in Mira Road in the month of June and July. Both the accused and the victim resides in the same locality at Natwar Nagar in Jogeshwari and are known to each other for the last eight years.
The accused committed the offence after promising the victim of getting a house at less than market price in a project that is undertaken by his close friend at Mira Road. The victim delayed in lodged in the complaint after the accused threatened her with dire consequences. "Police initially conducted an inquiry on the written complaint that the victim filed with the police a week back. After verifying the facts and on getting confirmation, the accused was booked," said a police officer.
The accused on learning about the complaint lodged against him got hospitalized in a western suburban hospital to escape from getting arrested. Jogeshwari police senior inspector VR Damgude confirmed TOI about the offence. But he denied divulging with information as it may hamper the case.
The victim, in her police complaint, said, "My husband and I were known to the accused for the last eight years. He befriended us by lending help in getting my brother transferred from Mumbai to Pune MSEB office. Also he helped us in various other household problems. He had gained trust which he misused."
The victim told the police, "In June, the accused informed me that he can help us in buying a flat at less than market price at Mira Road. He took me in his car to the project site to meet his so called friend who is a developer. After reaching the place he told to check into a hotel room as his friend will join them later."
Police said that the accused mixed sedative in the food that was offered to the victim and raped her. "The victim claimed that she was unaware about the first time she was raped. She learnt about it only on second occasion when she woke up while the accused was raping her in the month of July at the same hotel. On seeing the victim awake, the accused threatened her with dire consequences," said the police.
After waiting for three the victim and her husband finally dared to lodge the complaint. The accused is booked under IPC sections for 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, or any stupefying, intoxicating or unwholesome drug, or other thing with intent to cause hurt), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation).Link: Party worker sedates homemaker, rapes her twice
