JAIPUR: A drunken man strangulated his wife to death in the Sikar district when she did not quit smoking despite repeated warnings. The man escaped his village and was hiding in Jaipur's Mansarovar area from where the police arrested him on Saturday night.
According to the police, the man, identified as Tarachand, is a resident of Meran village of Sikar. He is a petrol pump employee. "His wife Geeta Devi (30) was addicted to smoking. The couple used to have fights over this," said a police officer.
The officer added that Tarachand consumed alcohol after work on Thursday evening after which he returned home. "He found his wife smoking in the kitchen which made him furious and he verbally abused her. But, when the woman did not stop smoking, he took a piece of cloth and strangulated her to death," said the officer.
Tarachand then fled from his village and reached Jaipur. However, his mobile phone was on. "He was constantly in touch with some villagers and taking updates over police action. We put his mobile phone under surveillance and he was traced in Jaipur. A team was immediately rushed there and he was found in the Mansarovar area," said the officer. The officer added that he has been taken to Sikar and is being interrogated.
