LUDHIANA: An inspector with the intelligence wing of city police has been booked in a case of rape following a complaint by a woman from village Jodhan. While police said they were still probing the complaint made against Inspector Dilpreet Singh, latter claimed he was being framed in the case.
According to Sahnewal police, which registered the case, the woman who got divorce in the year 2009 said in the complaint that she was raped by the accused on Friday.
"It was during the time of separation from her husband that she met the accused and got close to him. He developed physical relations with him on the promise of getting married with her," police said.
The woman complained that the accused did not have any child from her marriage and later she came to know that he was also involved with some other woman. Narrating the alleged incident she alleged that the accused called her to a prominent dhaba on the National high way no 1 at Sahnewal. He took her to a room, and then allegedly raped her and issued threats," she alleged.
"The victim got recorded her statement with us on Friday following which we have registered a case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. We also got conducted the medical examination of the victim. A fair probe is being conducted into the case. If at all, the victim wants to get the investigation in the case done by some other agency, we have no issues," said Station House officer, Sahnewal Inspector Kulwant Singh.
Sources said, the accused after being promoted as Inspector police in the intelligence wing was on leave for some time. He had recently been relieved to join the intelligence wing.
When contacted, Inspector Dilpreet Singh however claimed, "This is a clear case of extortion as the woman wants to extract money. She has demanded Rs 40 lakh from me in front of every one. If an independent enquiry is done in the case the truth will come out," he claimed.
Police however are yet to draw a conclusive inference.
