MUMBAI: The MRA Marg police conducted a DNA test on a taxi driver, Rafique Sayyed (42), to ascertain if he had any role in the rape and murder of three minor girls that took place in December 2011 and 2012.
Sayyed was arrested on January 3 by the police beat marshals on charges of molesting a minor. He had also tried to kidnap the four year old girl. The girl told police that she was fast asleep when the cabbie arrived there and tried to kidnap.
The girl, who would stay on the footpath, was sleeping with her grandmother when the incident took place. Her mother was accompanying her father in JJ Hospital for treatment.
Sayyad was nabbed after the patrolling beat marshals spotted a taxi parked in isolation, when they drove close to check out the reason and spotted Sayyad forcefully dragging the minor inside the vehicle. The police are probing if Sayyed had any role in the earlier kidnapping and rape cases of minors.
