HYDERABAD: A consulting general physician (GP) of a private hospital in Jubilee Hills was booked for misbehaving with a female patient on the hospital premises on Sunday evening.
The Banjara Hills police have registered a criminal case against Dr Papa Rao, 52, who runs a private clinic at Kukatpally but is also a consulting GP at the hospital in Jubillee Hills. On Saturday evening, Dr Rao told a 36-year-old housewife from Kukatpally, who had been consulting him for the past several years for joint pains and headache, to visit him at his office at the private hospital.

According to the victim's complaint, the doctor pretended to examine her eyes but suddenly kissed her in his chambers. When the incident happened, the duo were alone and the victim's mother-in-law was waiting outside, the police said. The victim pushed the doctor away and ran out of the room. Later, she lodged a complaint with the cops with the assistance of her family members.

"Based on the victim's complaint, a case was registered against Dr Papa Rao under section 354 (Assault or use of criminal force to outrage the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case is under investigation and no arrests have been made yet," deputy commissioner of police (DCP), West Zone, G Sudheer Babu said.
"It was a holiday and there was no staff (around). Pending investigation, the doctor has been suspended," a spokesperson of the private hospital said.
