NEW DELHI: In a barbaric incident, a man hammered a five inch nail into the forehead of his wife, whom he suspected of infidelity, and left her bleeding for the whole night with their three hapless children, before the neighbour's came to their rescue in the morning.

Mamta (27) has slipped into coma after the attack while her husband Pappu was arrested on Friday following the incident in South-East Delhi's Sangam Vihar area.

The incident took place late on Thursday night when Mamta and Pappu were in their room while their three children were sleeping in an adjacent room in their G block residence.

"Pappu had been suspecting that Mamta was cheating on him. On Thursday night they had an argument over the issue which soon tuned ugly. In a fit of rage, Pappu tied her hands and legs and gagged her with cloths.

"He then brought a five inch long nail from outside and hammered it on her forehead. After half of the nail went in, he locked the house from outside and fled from the spot," said a police official.

It was the children who saw the mother lying in a pool of blood and untied her.

They kept crying lying next to her all night. It was only in the morning that the landlord heard the children crying and the woman was rushed to a hospital where her condition is stated to be critical.

Pappu who hails from Etah in Uttar Pradesh was arrested yesterday by the police. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against him.

Dec 12, 2013: Delhi woman claims husband mercilessly raped, sodomized her on honeymoon

NEW DELHI: A newly married woman has accused her husband, an executive with a private firm, of brutally raping and sodomizing her during their honeymoon in Bangkok and Thailand, police said on Thursday. 

The 23-year-old victim, along with her family, approached police late last night after which an FIR under relevant sections of the IPC was lodged against the victim's husband, Punit Bhardwaj. 

She was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where sodomy was confirmed in her medical examination. She was also given medical assistance there, police said. 

Her husband, who works as a project manager with a multinational company, is at large and several police teams have been deployed to nab him, police said. 

"In her complaint, the victim said that her husband's behaviour during their honeymoon in Bangkok caused unbearable physical and mental torture to her. She also said that initially, they were supposed to go to Maldives but her husband took her to Bangkok," a police official said. 

The victim, who also works at a private firm, married Bhardwaj on November 29. It was an arranged marriage, after which the couple went to Bangkok on 1 December for their honeymoon and returned to the national capital on December 8. 

The woman shared her ordeal with her parents after returning home, following which the family decided to approach police alleging that she was confined, mercilessly raped and sodomized by her husband during their honeymoon trip. 

Police have taken up investigation and a manhunt has been launched to nab Bhardwaj, the official said.
