May 21, 2012: Woman gang-raped in south Delhi

, TNN | May 21, 2012, 12.50AM IST
NEW DELHI: A woman in her late 20s was allegedly gang-raped through Friday night and dumped at Nehru Place on early Saturday. The woman has been admitted to AIIMS, police said. Four accused were arrested till Sunday evening.

This incident comes weeks after a woman was gang-raped by two persons, murdered and dumped in Nehru Place and another woman was raped by four persons, killed and dumped inside LNJP Hospital

Sources said the woman was returning from Jaitpur in southeast Delhi after work when an occupant of a Gramin Sewa van offered her a lift. "Around 7.30pm, she was waiting for a bus for Najafgarh when a youth offered her a lift. The woman took the auto but instead of dropping her at Najafgarh, the man allegedly took her to a barren spot in Nehru Place and raped her along with two friends who joined him on the way, a source said. The driver stood guard, sources added.

The three accused, accompanied by the driver and another friend, then took the woman to a house in Madanpur Khadar in south Delhi and the five men raped her. After repeated assaults, the accused allegedly made the woman sit in the van and headed to drop her back in the wee hours. However, one wheel of the tempo came off near the gas plant in Nehru Place. The driver managed to control the vehicle but hearing the commotion, sources said, a truck driver came out of his parked vehicle. He allegedly threatened the men that he would raise an alarm if they did not allow him to rape the victim.

The accused then put her on a rickshaw and fled. The woman sought the rickshaw-puller's help and had cops informed. "A medical examination at AIIMS has confirmed sexual assault. A case of gang rape, abduction and threatening someone of dire consequences has been registered," said a source.

May 20, 2012: Woman 'raped' by neighbour in Kolkata

May 20, 2012, 03.16AM IST
KOLKATA: A woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour, a paying guest, at least 15 days ago. On Saturday, she mustered courage and told her husband about the incident, following which a complaint was lodged at Shyampukur police station. While the accused, Sushovan Kundu, is absconding, police have interrogated two of his roommates.

The woman, in her late 20s, stays with her husband at a rented apartment in the Shyampukur police station area. On Saturday, the victim's husband saw that their neighbour was forcing her to go somewhere. When he intervened, the woman broke into tears and told her husband that she was sexually assaulted by the youth and he had been pestering her.

The woman said that few days ago in the afternoon, she had gone to the terrace of the building to hang wet clothes. It was then that Kundu reportedly gagged her, forcibly took her to his room and raped her.

The accused also filmed her in compromising positions and threatened to release the footage on the internet if she dared to lodge a police complaint against him, the woman alleged.

It was because of this threat that the woman kept quiet. Neither did she lodge a complaint nor did she tell her husband, though it had been a fortnight since the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, Kundu reportedly kept pressing her to oblige him with sexual favours. If she refused, he would release the footage, he threatened. The woman, however, resisted his advances on various pretexts.

But on Saturday, Kundu seemed determined and went on pestering the victim to give in to his demands.

Police said they have already seized some clothes of the woman, though it is too late to prove therape. They have also started gathering circumstantial evidence.

"We have already detained the roommates of the youth. We have got some hint of torture perpetrated on her. We are hopeful of gathering more witnesses against the crime," said a senior police officer investigating the incident.
