NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old woman was killed by her husband on their child's birthday after she refused to give him Rs 2,000. The incident took place on Saturday in Burari area of north Delhi.
The accused, identified as Shanu, was arrested by the police soon after the crime. The deceased has been identified as Pinky. The couple got married three years ago and had a one-year-old son who was asleep at the time of the murder.
The incident came to light when Pinky's niece, Laxmi - who had come to attend the birthday party and stayed back - woke up around 2am after hearing a commotion . She came out of her room and saw Shanu hitting Pinky on the head with a brick in the bathroom which was splattered with blood.
Shanu threatend Laxmi to keep quiet but she managed to raise an alarm after which neighbours gathered and handed Shanu over to the police. Pinki was rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead.
A case of murder under Section 302 has been registered against Shanu.
During questioning by the police, Shanu said that he got angry after his wife refused to give him Rs 2000. He claims to have stormed out of the house soon after only to come back after a short while to quarrel with Pinky. When Pinky retorted, he began to hit her. Pinky subsequently succumbed to her injuries.
