NOIDA: A woman was allegedly killed and her body set ablaze by her in-laws in Salarpur village of Greater Noida on Thursday. Police have identified the deceased as Renu Jogi (24), a resident of Aligarh district. Cops said she was being frequently tortured by her in-laws for dowry for the last few months.

While the accused have been absconding since the incident, police have registered a case under Sections 304B and 498A of the IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of Dowry Prohibition Act at Jarcha police station. Renu's body was found in a charred state on Thursday night. After neighbours called the police, her dead body was recovered from the kitchen. The family members had already escaped by the time the cops arrived.

Jashraph, Renu's father, in his complaint, has alleged that her husband Dushyant Jogi and his parents had been demanding a four-wheeler, gold jewellery and Rs 1 lakh in cash following the marriage last year. They had also been beating her. "We have sent the body for post mortem to ascertain the cause of death," said Brijesh Kumar Singh, SP (Rural).
