Jun 29, 2011: Man held for raping girl in Kalkaji flat, New Delhi

NEW DELHI: A man has been arrested for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl in a DDA flat in Kalkaji on June 4. "The girl from Patna was brought to Delhi about two months ago by an acquaintance, identified as Tamijuddin, on the pretext of getting her a job as a domestic help at Shipra Mall in Anand Vihar.

"On June 4, his relative Aalam (40) brought her to his rented house in Kalkaji.

A drunk Aalam then sent his family out to purchase vegetables and raped the girl. He also beat her up and threatened her not to disclose the matter.

"Out of fear, she did not initially go to the police," said Ajay Chaudhry, additional commissioner of police (southeast).

She later got employed as a maid and disclosed about the incident. Consequently, the matter was reported to Kalkaji Police on June 27 under Indian Penal Code 376/506 and Aalam was arrested.

Both the victim and the accused have been medically examined, police said.

Aalam, who has four children, works as a labourer in an export unit.
The victim has been sent to a shelter home, police officials said. Further investigations are on in the case, police added.
