Dec 31, 2011: Woman jumps off building to escape rape bid - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: A woman pursuing a lab technician's course was injured after she jumped off the second floor of a building to escape a rape bid in north Delhi, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday night in Begumpur. "Victim Seema, name changed, jumped off the building and became unconscious," said a police official.

The man who attempted to rape the woman - who is is in her early 30s and a native of Haryana - was identified as Parvinder. "A case of attempt to rape on the basis of the information of the victim has been registered," he added.

She had gone to meet her friend Vishal at his house in Begumpur area. At the time of the incident, Vishal had gone out for buying something. In the mean time, Vishal's friend Parvinder tried to rape her.

The woman was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment by Vishal and Parvinder when she became unconscious.

"While the victim was being taken to hospital in a car, a passerby made a call to police control room suspecting it to be a case of abduction," police said.

"While the car was returning from hospital, Narela police spotted it and caught the accused and the girl was rescued safely around 3 am on Saturday," added the official.

The official said that the Vishal and Parvinder were interrogated and investigation was on.

The woman was pursuing a lab technician's course in an institute in New Ashok Nagar in east Delhi. She and Vishal belong to the same village in Haryana, said the official.
