Thane: A farm laborer from Manor in Palghar taluka of the district has been arrested on the charges of burning his wife to death, Thane rural police said today. The arrested has been identified as Mangesh Valya Bhutkade (25), who lived with his wife Deepika (23) and a two-year-old child in Virat Khadki Pada of Palghar, PSI S K Jamadar of the Manor police station said.
Mangesh had an altercation with his wife last Monday, after she refused to give him money for drinking, which he usually used to demand. In a fit of anger, he poured kerosene on her and set her on fire, Jamadar said.
Deepika sustained burn injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed to injuries on Saturday, police said.
The accused has been booked under sections 302 and 427 of the IPC. Further investigations are on.
