GHAZIABAD: A 65-year-old woman was murdered at her Sihani Gate home in Ghaziabad on Saturday. Her neck was slashed and her body was found on a charpoy outside her house. A day earlier, two senior citizens were brutally murdered in the city.
Police identified Saturday's victim as Shikshavati and said the only thing missing from her person were her gold earrings. Her family claimed she had been murdered for her ornaments.
Sikshavati's body was discovered by her daughter-in-law, Kavita, at 6.30am.
She called the police. Only Kavita and her mother-in-law were home when the incident happened. Kavita's husband was away at a hospital tending to his ailing cousin.
Two blood stained rags were recovered from the crime scene, leading investigators to suspect that there were two assailants who had used these to wipe their hands after the murder.
The victim's family claimed the accused had possibly killed her in her sleep. "She always wore those earrings. Nothing else was missing from her person when we found her body. The earringswere ripped off and her ears bore injury marks," said Khiddar Singh, brother-in-law of the victim. "Initial investigations seem to suggest that the accused entered through the front door. The women were sleeping in separate rooms," said P K Gautam, of Sihani Gate police station said.
Shiksha lived with one of her son, Hari Om. Her other three sons live separately in the same neighbourhood.
