BHIWANI: A 33-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly thrashing a former international woman wrestler in Haryana's Bhiwani town.
Police said Dharambir Singh allegedly assaulted Poonam Bamal (27) after she slapped him for misbehaving with her after hitting her with his motorcycle while she was on her way to a local `akhara' for practice on Friday evening.
Singh was arrested as some passersby intervened, overpowered and handed him over to police.
Bhiwani Civil Lines police station SHO Devender Kumar said police have registered a case on the wrestler's complaint and booked Singh under Indian Penal Code's sections 294 (obscene act) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The wrester, who had finished fourth in the World Senior Wrestling Championship held in Budapest (Hungary) in 2005, now coaches budding wrestlers.
