HYDERABAD: Enraged by his fiancee marrying her lover, a transport supervisor with software MNC stabbed the woman, in broad daylight in front of her husband, in Kandukur on Sunday morning.
The victim, identified as Saroja, 21, and a nurse at a private hospital in Hayatnagar, was engaged to her 23-year-old relative Raju on February 6, a transport supervisor with Deloitte Company in Madhapur. After the engagement, the two went and for wedding shopping and Raju even bought her gold jewellery and saris. He even gave his debit card to Saroja, Kandukur inspector S Chakrapani said.
However, without intimating either Raju or his family, Saroja married her long-time friend, Prabhakar, a medical store worker from Kandukur, at a local temple on March 22. Raju was left shocked with this unexpected incident.
On Sunday morning, Raju saw Saroja standing with her husband at a bus stop in Kandukur. Raju became furious when he noticed that Saroja was wearing a sari, which he bought her after the engagement. "He immediately picked up a knife from a cobbler sitting nearby and stabbed Saroja twice in the back and chest," the inspector said.
According to the police, as soon as Raju began stabbing his wife, Prabhakar fled from the spot. Raju also tried to run away from the area, but police personnel posted at a nearby junction managed to pin him down, the inspector said.
Saroja was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and her condition was said to be stable. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, police have booked a case against Raju under section 307 (Attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
