NAMAKKAL: A 34-year-old woman was found murdered at her home near Pallipalayam in Namakkal district on Wednesday. Police arrested her husband in connection with the murder case.
The deceased has been identified as J Mallika, wife of V Jayapal (40) from Kandipudur Muniappan Koil Street near Pallipalayam. The couple has two children, Manimaran (9) and Lavanya (7).
According to Pallipalayam police, Jayapal murdered his wife by giving her poison mixed with alcohol. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mallika lent money for interest and she had loaned Rs60, 000 to several persons. "Some people failed to repay the loan, putting Mallika in financial difficulties. She borrowed money from financiers hoping she would be able to come out of the fix," police said.
Soon, financiers were knocking on Mallika's door, asking her to repay the loan amount. She sought her husband's help who managed to come up with Rs20,000. "However, Mallika kept asking for more money. Frustrated and angry, Jayapal decided to murder his wife," police said.
On Wednesday morning, Jayapal allegedly forced her to drink alcohol mixed with poison. "Neighbours rushed her to Pallipalayam government hospital. Doctors who examined her suspected that she could have been murdered since she was bleeding from her nose. They told police about their suspicions," a police official involved in the case said.
Based on the allegation raised by the doctors, police interrogated Jayapal. During interrogation, he confessed to his crime. "He forced Mallika to drink alcohol mixed with poison and later he suffocated her using a pillow," police said.
Jayapal was arrested by the Pallipalayam Police. They produced him before the Judicial Magistrate in Tiruchengode and lodged him in the Tiruchengode Sub Jail.
