JAIPUR: In a gruesome incident, an eight-year-old girl was kidnapped and later killed and her body was hacked into pieces and strewn around in a Dholpur village.
The girl's headless body was found buried in a pit on Thursday evening, three days after she was abducted. Her chopped off hands were found a few metres away. Villagers alleged that she could have been kidnapped for some black magic rituals ahead of Navratri festival.
Police, however, have not confirmed the reason behind the gruesome act. A post-mortem has been carried out to ascertain if the girl was abused before being murdered. Police have prima-facie ruled out rape.
Anjali Jatav, a resident of Agra, was staying with her maternal grandmother in Piphera village under Kaulari police station area in Dholpur for the past two months.
"On April 8 when Anjali, her gandmother and three other women were on their way to the market, three unidentified men intercepted them and forced Anjali to get into a car and sped away," said SP, Dholpur Harendra Kumar.
The villagers demonstrated alleging police "inaction" and demanded a hunt for the girl immediately.
"A woman spotted the body half buried near the government school in the village on Thursday evening. She informed other villagers and police," said the officer. He added that post-mortem was conducted on Friday.
A doctor, who was on the medical board that conducted the post-mortem, said that girl's hair was snipped and later, the head was chopped off in a single blow. The hands were also cut in a similar manner.
"The brutality is shocking. Prima-facie, it doesn't seem that the girl was raped," said the doctor.
The villages alleged that the girl could have been kidnapped by some tantriks as black magic and superstition are rampant in the area. It is possible that the girl was sacrificed, they added.
The villagers accused the police of negligence and slackness in initiating the probe. They alleged that the police didn't respond to their pleas initially on April 8.
The village borders Chambal's ravine area which was once ruled by dacoits.
