Aug 31, 2012: Woman traffic cop stops man crossing road, gets slapped

MUMBAI: A 22-year-old youth was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting and slapping woman traffic cop. The incident occurred in the afternoon at Nagpada signal when Mohammed Khan was stopped by Sushma Shinde (25) from crossing the road as the signal was green and vehicles were running at high speed. 

According to the police, Khan caught Shinde by her collar and repeatedly slapped her before onlookersintervened. The locals caught Khan and handed him over to the police. Shinde, in the complaint, said, "I was on duty at the signal when I saw Khan trying to cross the road. He was busy talking over the phone and trying to cross the road without looking at the signal, which was green. Had he crossed the road, a vehicle could have hit him. But he roughed me up despite making the mistake." 

Khan was booked under IPC sections for assault and for not allowing a public servant to perform duty. He was released on bail on Thursday.This is the second such case in a week in Nagpada. Last week, a traffic cop was assaulted by a group of motorists when he tried to stop them from taking the JJ flyover. Four persons were arrested.
