JAIPUR: A one-year old was abandoned at the doorstep of a temple in Ajmer town on Monday evening. The girl was admitted to a hospital, police said. An FIR has been registered against unidentified parents for abandoning the child.
According to the police, the priest of Shiva Temple situated at Subhash Garden in Ajmer heard some dogs barking.
"He rushed outside and saw a girl lying on the temple's threshold. She was surrounded by some dogs. The priest informed the police following which she was rushed to a hospital," a police officer said.
He added, "the girl is mentally challenged as per the doctors. It could be the reason behind the parents abandoning the girl. The girl would have fallen prey to the dogs if the priest had not spotted her on time. We have registered a case and are trying to trace the parents," said the officer.
Several cases of girl children being abandoned has been reported in the state.
Coming down heavily on the police, the Rajasthan high court had recently asked the cops to make more efforts in tracing the parents who are involved in female infanticide or foeticide. The court had even said that the station house officers of the police stations who fail to trace these parents should be removed.Link: Girl child abandoned at temple in Rajasthan
