MUMBAI: A 27-year-old woman hanged herself at her matrimonial home in Vasai (W) allegedly due to harassment by her mother-in-law for dowry. Jyoti Pinto was at home with her five-month-old son when she took the extreme step. Her mother-in-law Maria has been arrested for abetment. Jyoti was married to Felix, a marine engineer.
In another case, a 26-year-old woman, Darshana Bhoir, hanged herself at her flat in Virar (E). Darshana's family said she was asthmatic and took the extreme step due to her deteriorating health.
