SAMBALPUR: The rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl by a driver rocked Sambalpur on Monday. The body of Urmila Nag (7) of Tanlapara was recovered from a park, around 300 m from her house in Kejelpara, on Monday morning. The driver, Pradeep Dalai (35), was arrested. He was known to her family.
On Sunday evening, Pradeep had taken Urmila, a Class II student of Jharuapara ME, out on his cycle. When she did not return till 9 p.m., her family members and neighbours went to the driver's house in Ram Mandir area and asked about her. They dragged him to the police station when the drunk driver refused to divulge anything about Urmila. During interrogation, he confessed to having raped and murdering her.
