INDORE: Madhya Pradesh, which is fast earning the dubious tag of being the rape capital of the country, is also emerging as the state that has fascination for foreign girls as well.
The National crime record bureau (NCRB) data reveals that 'importation of foreign girls' (crime under 366-B) in the state has increased over the years and it contributed to 60% of the total crime of this nature committed in the country. This was revealed in NCRB data released recently. The data suggest that MP along with Karnataka and Bihar contributes 83.4% of total such cases at the national level.
The bureau also announced that such crime has registered an increase of 122.2% in one year as 80 cases were reported in 2011 as against 36 cases in 2010.
The crime comes under section 366B of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Section 366B says that importation of girl from foreign country including Jammu and Kashmir under the age of twenty- one years with intent that she may be, or knowing it to be likely that she will be, forced or seduced to illicit intercourse with another person. The accused could be punished with imprisonment which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
The NCRB report also suggests that total 94 cases of human trafficking took place in the state in 2011 in which two cases of buying girls for prostitution, three cases of selling girls for prostitution, 20 cases of procuration of minor girls, 45 cases of importation of girls and 24 cases of immoral trafficking took place in last one year.
However, ASP Manoj Rai doubted the figure saying that he has not come across any such cases in last two years. Big cities like Delhi and Mumbai are facing the problem more than cities like Indore and Bhopal, he added.
