Mumbai: A 45 year-old woman paid goons to fracture her husband's hands and legs after she grew started doubting her husband of having an affair.

The ploy came to light after the police arrested the two accused, Ashok Kodakanti (25) and Ghoshpak Shaikh (24), who had attacked and robbed the man, Balkrishna Naik, on June 19. The main accused, Asha Naik, has been detained by the police.

According to the police, on June 19, around 3:30 am at CGS Colony, Antop Hill, the two accused attacked Naik with a bamboo stick and looted cash and valuables worth Rs. 22,550. Naik, who is a taxi-driver by profession, then registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Antop Hill police station.

The Crime Branch Unit-4 that was conducting parallel investigations in the case, arrested Kodakanti and Shaikh on Friday. A case has been registered under sections 341, 394 and 34 of IPC.

During investigations, Shaikh confessed that Naik's wife Asha had given them Rs. 20,000 to attack her husband. According to Shaikh, Naik suspected her husband of having an affair with another woman and accused him of neglecting family.

"Asha had asked the accused to fracture her husband's hands and legs. She felt that this way she could confine her husband to the house and prevent him from meeting the other woman," said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Prafulla Bhosale.
