UDAIPUR: A village panchayat of Udaipur on Sunday allegedly stripped a couple, shaved their heads and tied them to a tree for allegedly having extra-marital affair.
The incident happened in Karkoli village under Sarada area, and when a police team tried to rescue the couple they were attacked by mob.
Several policemen were injured in the stone pelting by the mob, said Police Inspector Mahesh Kumar of Sarada police station.
Kumar said that a married woman of the village was allegedly involved with a youth of the same village, and about fifteen days back they had eloped.
Some relatives of the couple spotted them in a nearby Kalyanpur village and forcibly brought them to the village today, the inspector said.
Later, they were stripped and tied to a tree. On receiving the information police reached the spot and was met with resistance, Kumar said.
Police were still trying to placate the villager to rescue the couple, as the villagers wanted to decide the case in their panchayat and do not want the involvement of police.
