KANPUR: In a shocking incident, a minor girl, who had accused a local goon of raping her, has been allegedly strangulated to death by the hoodlum in full public view after she refused to withdraw the complaint against him. The incident occurred in Sidhaav villagein bordering Fatehpur district on Saturday morning when the accused Narvada Nishad barged into the house of the girl, Poonam Sonker (16), and after brutally attacking her strangled her to death.
The villagers immediately informed the Bahua police out-post cops, who in turn rushed to the spot but the accused managed to escape. The girl was allegedly raped by the accused in the month of December last. Subsequently, the girl's father had lodged a case in this regard with the district's Lalauli police station alleging that the youth Narvada Nishad had raped his daughter, the matter was subjudice.
Village sources informed, about a week ago, the accused had threatened the victim and her family members of dire consequences and pressurised them to take back the complaint, but they refused to do so. Also, the statement of rape victim was recorded before a magistrate three days ago.
Angered over this, the accused - Narvada Nishad - barged into her house when her parents were away at work. Poonam, who was sitting near the main entrance of her house tried to run inside but the accused pounced on her and dragged her outside the house and after brutally assaulting her, strangled her to death in full public view and escaped.
The rape victim's kin said they had informed the police about regular "threats" from the accused but the police did not do anything in this regard. No arrests have been made till now, they added. Meanwhile, deputy superintendent of police, Santosh Kumar Singh, said that a case was registered. "We are on the lookout for the accused and very soon he will be nabbed," he said.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Sidhaav village over the murder of rape victim. "Additional police personnel have been deployed at the village as precautionary measure," informed another senior police official.
