KANPUR: In a tragic incident, a five-year-old girl sustained serious burn injuries after she was allegedly pushed into a cauldron full of boiling oil by two local goons.

The victim has been identified as Saumya Pandey daughter of Avneesh Pandey, an owner of adhaba in the area.

According to police, the victim's father alleged that two local youths named, Vipin and Chotu, were forcing him to serve them chat (eatable) free of cost in the form of 'goonda tax' every day.

On Saturday morning, when Avneesh Pandey refused to serve the eatable to Vipin and Chotu, they ransacked his shop and thrashed him severely. However, when Avneesh's wife Reena confronted them, the two threw their daughter Saumya in the cauldron, in which oil was being heated.

Later, Saumya was admitted at Ursala Horseman Hospital in a critical condition.

The incident occurred in Sakreti area under Shivrajpur police station. Additional superintendent of police Manoj Sonker said a case has been registered against the accused. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, who fled from the spot after the incident.
