KANPUR: In a ghastly act of vengeance following a broken relationship, a youth allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend and later committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train late on Monday night.
Shrikant Yadav alias Jamuna (25), a resident of Rajapurwa locality under the Kakadeo police station, hacked to death his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend Seema Yadav of the same area late on Monday night.
A neighbour alerted police control room after coming across the commotion following which the cops from nearby police out-post rushed to the spot and started investigations. The youth, who fled from the spot leaving behind his mobile phone and murder weapon then allegedly jumped before an approaching train at the railway crossing in the Nazirabad police area soon after a police team in order to arrest him launched a hunt in the area.
Sources informed, before the ghastly act, the youth called up the girl and asked her to come on the roof-top, where he hacked her into pieces following a confrontation. Later, during the wee hours of Tuesday, Shrikant's badly severed body, was found lying near the railway crossing on Kanpur-Farrukhabad railway line, police said adding that both the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
"Shrikant was carrying a sharp-edged weapon and attacked Seema repeatedly till she collapsed on the floor. House inmates including her father Chotey Lal, mother Shanti and brother Ramu on hearing cries rushed to her aid and took her to hospital, where she succumbed to wounds due to heavy blood loss," SP (West) Bharat Singh.
"I saw Shrikant running out of the house and tried to stop him but he escaped. When I entered the first floor, I saw my daughter lying in a pool of blood," Chotey Lal said.
The girl had pursued BEd and was preparing for TET (Teacher Eligibility Test), said the police.
Investigating officer further added that preliminary findings indicated that the motive behind the murder was vengeance as a result of anger over Seema, whose parents had rejected Shrikant's proposal for marriage and recently arranged her marriage to another youth. Police suspect murder and suicide appeared to be planned since Shrikant went to Seema's house with a sharp-edged weapon. Seema along with her siblings used to sleep on the first floor of the house. Her parents, used to stay on the ground floor.
Shrikant Yadav, who was pursuing graduation from a prominent degree college in the city, was in a relationship with Seema since the past few years. The police have registered a case and are further investigating.
