MANGALORE: A minor girl from Ullal was allegedly raped by two persons at Uppala in Kasargod district on Wednesday. The act was carried out by her house owner and his friend.
According to Ullal police, the victim and her mother reside in a rented house on KC Road in Ullal. Ismail, their house owner, lured the girl with gold and clothes, and took her to a house in Uppala along with his friend, Raheem Uppala. She was allegedly raped there by the duo. A complaint was filed by the girl at Ullal police station. The accused are absconding and the police have intensified their search for them.
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has taken steps to protect the victim. CWC chairperson Asha Nayak said they received a petition from the kin of the victim.
"I have directed police to be more proactive in this case. I have collected information about the case from the girl's relative. It was learnt that the accused had lured the girl taking advantage of her poverty. The girl has been hospitalized and she may require protection and care even after discharge.
