PUNE: A 47-year-old dance teacher was arrested on Monday night for allegedly molesting five minor girls in his dance class on Sinhagad road here.
The teacher, Nitin Shitole, was picked up by the Dattawadi police after the mother of a 10-year-old girl lodged a complaint against him. The woman said that her daughter and four other girls, whose names she gave the police, had been molested by the teacher.
Shitole was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded in police custody till April 18.
Shitole was arrested under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (outraging the modesty of a woman).
The woman said Shitole had placed an advertisement in a vernacular newspaper about his dance class for children in January this year. The woman and her husband had met Shitole and enrolled their daughter, a fourth standard student, for the classes to be held during the summer vacations. They paid fees of Rs 1,500 and the girl joined the class on April 11. Shitole, who runs the class along with his wife, has around 45 students spread over several batches.
The woman told the police that when she went to pick up her daughter from the class on Monday, she found her and one of her friends crying and trembling with fear.
