INDORE: Set afire allegedly by her husband, a young woman Kesar Bai is battling for life at MY Hospital here. Kesar Bai, 22, was allegedly burnt early on Monday by her husband Collector Singh, who was repeatedly torturing her for not bringing from her parents, Rs 5 lakh as dowry.

Hailing from Alapura in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, Kesar was married to Collector Singh (a resident of Palda-Bhanwarkuan) in April 2012. After the marriage, Collector had been repeatedly torturing Kesar for the dowry amount, due to which a few months ago, she returned to live with her parents in Rajgarh. Only eight days ago, she returned to her husband's house in Indore, after he went to her parents and apologized for the bad behaviour.

On Monday, Collector again raised the demand for dowry and started beating Kesar. When she tried to resist, Collector sprayed kerosene on her and allegedly set her ablaze. She was later admitted to MY Hospital by the neighbours with 50 per cent burns.

Bhanwarkuan police station in-charge Ashok Tiwari said a manhunt has been launched to nab Collector, who is absconding since the incident.
