MUMBAI: A youth from Uttar Pradesh was arrested for allegedly raping a minor co-passenger on two occasions in Pune and Mumbai, after befriending her while travelling on a long-distance train, police said.

The accused, Kishan Sahani (21), a resident of Pune, was nabbed, while trying to escape from Dadar railway station last night, police added.

According to police, the 15-year-old victim was travelling alone from Solapur to Mumbai to meet her aunt.

"Sahani, who also boarded the train at Solapur, had befriended her and took her to an isolated location at Pune railway yard (during the train halt) after luring her. He then raped her in the wee hours of Saturday," Pradeep Padvi, inspector at government railway police station at Dadar.

He then threatened her of dire consequences, if she revealed anything about it to others, police said.

As the train reached Dadar last night, Sahani again took her to an isolated location here and sexually abused her, police said.

The victim had telephoned her aunt to inform her that she had reached Dadar railway station, police said adding that when her aunt reached the station to receive her, she found the victim unwell.

When she inquired, the victim narrated the incident to her, following which, they went to the police station and registered an FIR.

The accused, who was spotted by the victim on Dadar railway station, was trying to run away, when the police caught him last night, police said adding further probe was on.
