NEW DELHI: Ditched by her lover, a Modinagar woman allegedly murdered him and burnt his body with the help of her brother and a cousin. Police said Mehboob, who lived and ran an eatery in Ghaziabad's Indirapuram area, was snared to Modinagar on the pretext of a final meeting, knocked out, strangled and then burnt. The main accused, Seema, and her younger brother, Sachin, were arrested at Modinagar railway station on Wednesday.

Police said 28-year-old Seema had been in a serious relationship with Mehboob, a married man with four children. He had allegedly promised to leave his wife for her but went back on his word. Seema also alleged Mehboob had tried to stab her a few days before he was murdered.

On December 5, Seema allegedly called up Mehboob to meet her one last time in Modinagar. While the couple talked, police claimed, Sachin hit Mehboob on the head from behind. They strangled him as he lay unconscious and burnt his body after dousing it in petrol. They dumped the body in the forest at Manigaon nearby, police said.

"Investigations revealed the involvement of the woman and her brother. Several teams were formed and a trap set. A team led by station officer of Niwari, R P Singh, arrested them on December 14 when they were waiting to board a train at the station in the area. We are still looking for her cousin," said a senior Ghaziabad police officer. The accused have been sent to jail.
