NIZAMABAD: In a bizarre incident, a daily wage labourer's wife was taken away by a private moneylender as her husband had failed to return the money due to him.
The labourer had borrowed the money for construction of a house. Though the incident took place 13 days ago in Vadeppalli village of Yedapalli mandal, it came to light on Wednesday evening. The police did not respond to the victim's complaint during the last 13 days.
According to police, the 25-year-old Arolla Mamatha, wife of Chiranjeevi, was taken away by one Bakkanna, a native of Nakkalagutta village in Korutla mandal of neighbouring Karimnagar district, as her husband did not clear the debt. On November 30, Bakkanna went to the village dragged the woman into his vehicle and sped away and threatened Chiranjeevi over phone that Mamatha would be sold for Rs 50,000 if he failed to repay the loan as early as possible.
Chiranjeevi told the police that he had borrowed Rs 19,000 from Bakkanna six months ago at 20 per cent interest and paid Rs 20,000 as against a total due amount of Rs 40,000 including interest.
Police who finally acted on Chiranjeevi's complaint are said to have directed Bakkanna to bring back Mamatha and hand her over to her husband.
