JAIPUR: A clerk working at a government school in Bundi was detained on Sunday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old student several times over a year after he lured her on the pretext of releasing her scholarship.

The girl, a Class X student, lodged an FIR with Hindoli police station on Saturday against the clerk identified as Bhawani Shankar Saini working at a government senior secondary school in the area.

"The girl says that she is entitled for a scholarship announced by the state government for girls. However, the clerk, Bhawani Shankar, had been preventing her from getting the scholarship," said a senior police officer.

The officer added that the girl accused the clerk of raping her several times over the past one year promising that he would get the scholarship released.

"The clerk took the girl to a hotel on March 12 and raped her. The girl finally told her family members following which her father and the victim came to the police station on Saturday and lodged an FIR," the officer said.

He added that Bhawani Shankar was rounded up for questioning. "We have got a medical examination conducted on the girl. Her allegations are being verified," said the officer.

Meanwhile, the education department also suspended the clerk after the girl's allegations came to the light.

"Saini had joined Rajasthan government service about two-and-a-half-years ago and had completed the probationary period. The principal of the school has been asked to initiate departmental inquiry in the matter," said the District Education Officer (DEO), secondary education, Radhashyam Laddha.
