AHMEDABAD: A 50-year-old woman was set ablaze by her neighbours when she protested an alleged eve-teasing incident involving her daughter-in-law.

The victim, Madhu Dantania, who stays at Garib Awas Yojna in Naroda, has registered an attempt to murder complaint at the Naroda police station in this regard. The incident took place on Saturday. "Dantania's daughter-in-law had gone out for shopping. When she returned home she told her mother-in-law that their neighbor Kamlesh Yadav, 40, had misbehaved with her," said a Naroda police official investigating the case.

Angered by this Dantania confronted her Yadav. However, matters took a violent turn. "Yadav, his wife and two sons ganged up on Dantania, doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze. The family members then fled from their home," said the official.

Hearing the commotion, Dantania's neighbors rushed to help her. They doused the flames and rushed her to the civil hospital. "She has sustained 70% burn injuries," the official added. Later, cops recorded her statement and filed a complaint of attempt to murder against Yadav and his three family members.
