NEW DELHI: Three days after the city government approved a comprehensive relief package for crime victims, a city court on Thursday recommended grant of compensation to a minor rape victim.
Additional sessions judge Narinder Kumar recommended a grant of compensation to a five-year-old girl, while sentencing her rapist to seven years in jail. The court recommended the case under the Delhi Victim's Compensation Scheme 2011 which was approved by the government on May 14 for victims of rape, acid attacks, human trafficking, kidnapping.
"Keeping in view the injury suffered by the victim, and that the convict may not adequately compensate the victim for the injury...this court deems it a fit case to recommend her compensation," the ASJ said.
The minor girl was raped by a rickshaw puller in the wee hours of November 6, 2010.
