VADODARA: Two elderly women were brutally murdered by a man in a village in Halol talukaof Panchmahal district.
The accused suspected that the women were evil spirits and had caused losses to him and hence took the extreme step.
While the incident took place sometime late on Sunday night, it was reported only on Monday morning to the Halol police.
The victims used to stay and work at a farm and were murdered there.
According to Pavagadh police, 65-year-old Kapila Bachu Nayak and 70-year-old Shata Chandu Nayak were sleeping at the farm in Adas village late on Sunday night when Kapila's nephew Vechat alias Tiniyo Kanti Nayak came there and attacked the two women with a sickle.
Vechat believed that the two women were witches and were the reason for his bad financial situation.
Kapila's son Arjun Bachu Nayak was also present along with the two women. Vechat attacked Arjun too, but he ran away from the spot. Arjun returned to the farm only on Monday morning and found that the two women had been murdered and their bodies were lying there. Arjun informed the police regarding the incident and filed an offence regarding the murders.
Pavagad police sub-inspector SR Goswami said that Vechat had run away after the incident and attempts were being made to nab him.
