BHOPAL: A blind dalit teenager, who was raped for well over one year by two persons at her place in Vishnupur village, in Narsinghpur district of eastern Madhya Pradesh (MP), has delivered a fragile baby girl. While the newborn is struggling at a hospital the police have arrested two persons.
After a complaint by the victim and her father, the police have arrested the accused Manja Choudhary, 20, and Umesh Choudhary, 16.
Narsinghpur superintendent of police GG Pandey told TOI that DNA samples of both the accused have been sent to Forensic Lab, Sagar to determine the paternity of the newborn.
"The teenager, aged about 18, delivered the baby on October 10 after which she along with her father lodged a complaint with the Kareli police station two days ago," Kareli sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) R L Armo said. "It is hard to understand why they didn't come to the police when the girl got pregnant," he said.
The younger sister of the victim has told police that the accused used to often come to their house in Visionpur and raped her, the SDOP said. The two used to come when the victim's father and younger brother - both labourers - were out, police said.
"We think that the victim has lost her mother some years ago as we didn't find her during investigation," a policeman said. The minor accused has been sent to the juvenile home while the adult one to the jail, he added.
"The underweight baby is being treated in the special new-born care unit of district hospital for last two days. Right now the child is weighing 1.35 kg. The infant is suffering from neo-natal jaundice and eye infection," said pediatrician R K Mehra. "I think that the girl child was born some 15 days ahead of the nine month period," he added.
