GURGAON: A district level committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner PC Meena to monitor heinous crimes against women in the district. District attorney and all the three DCPs have been appointed as its members.
"The committee will keep close watch on the cases of crime against women and ensure that there is no undue delay in these cases at any level. The police officials have to register FIR promptly whenever any woman in distress approaches the police station, without waiting for compromise between the disputing parties. After registration of case, investigation should also be carried out speedily. The police officers will sensitize all SHOs about these instructions so that there is no delay in tackling crime against women," said PC Meena. He asked the police to present status report of the cases pertaining to crime against women which were registered in various police stations till now.
According to him, every case of heinous crime against women will be monitored by the committee. The district attorney will check the details of each case and pursue these in district courts. He will ensure speedy trial of such cases in the courts of law. The deputy commissioner also mentioned about the provision of free legal aid in District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) wherein any woman, irrespective of her income, can seek free legal counsel to contest her case in the court. For obtaining free services of Legal Aid Counsel, all she is required to do is to apply on simple paper to the Secretary of DLSA, who is also Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Narinder Kaur.
If a case of rape comes to light, FIR will be lodged against the accused without delay after getting the victim medically examined. Moreover a DNA test will be conducted of both the victim and accused so that the culprit could not escape punishment in court of law.
