KALYAN: A 38-year-old constable and four of his family members have been booked for attempting to murder his 35-year-old wife.
The incident took place on Saturday morning at Beturkarpada in Kalyan where the victim, Shobha, who is also a constable, lives with her husband, Hari Desai.
Hari and his family members would allegedly constantly harass Shobha as they suspected her of having an extramarital affair. On Saturday, Hari was annoyed that Shobha had cooked despite knowing that he was fasting that day. Hari then sat on his wife's chest and forced her to drink phenyl, the police said.
Shobha called her parents, who live nearby, and told them what had happened. Her parents took her to hospital where she has been admitted to the ICU. Shobha, who is posted at the Kalyan police control room, married Hari eight and a half years ago. The couple have a six-year-old daughter. In her complaint, Shobha stated that after six months of their marriage, her husband and his family members started torturing her, falsely accusing her of having extramarital affairs. They also demanded money from her, she said.
The husband and his family members used to harass the victim, who is also a constable, because they suspected her of having an extramarital affair.
On Saturday morning the family was annoyed because the victim prepared food despite knowing that he was fasting. He sat on the victim's chest and forced to drink phenyl. She is in the ICU.
