NASHIK: Police on Wednesday arrested three minors on charges of raping a 14-year-old girl at her residence before setting her ablaze on Tuesday. The girl suffered 97% burns, the police said.

The accused forcefully gained entry into the house of victim at Aringale Mal on Eklahar Road when her parents were away and took turns to rape her, police said.

The girl's family had recently shifted to Aringle Mal. On Tuesday, when her family members were out for work the youngsters entered their house and raped here. Later, seeing her brothers return they doused her with kerosene and set her on fire. Since, no one was nearby, the girl could not be shifted to hospital immediately.

The victim is being treated at the Bytco Hospital on Nashik Road. But police denied the family's allegation that these were the same youngsters who had raped the girl about two to three months ago. Investigating officer police inspector Kailash Nagre, of the Nashik Road police station said that the two incidents do not have any connection.

Nagre said "About three months ago, the girl's parents had lodged a complaint that she was raped by one Balu Kharjul. However, investigations showed that she was not raped. But the police did arrest Kharjul on charges of attempt to rape." Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said police have arrested three people and the investigations are on.
