HANUMANGARH/RAJASTHAN: A newly-married woman died of severe burns in Rajasthan after her drunk father-in-law allegedly placed searing hot tongs on her thinking she was possessed by evil spirits, police said Tuesday.
The incident took place in Manak Thedi village of this district late Monday, about 375 km from state capital Jaipur. The police have registered a case acting on a complaint from victim Vimala Devi's brother.
"Vimala was married to Roshanlal a couple of months ago. Father-in-law Ramswaroop had suspicion that she was possessed by evil spirits... he gagged her and placed searing hot tongs on her body. I found her dead body lying on the floor," the brother complained.
"We have registered a case against some members of the in-laws' family for torture and murder," said a police officer.
