SIRSA: In another case of honour killing in Haryana, a 22-year-old youth was murdered by the girl's brother when the couple was caught together in Kumhariyan village on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. The victim, Jay Kumar, died on the spot, while his friend Rakesh, who was accompanying the couple, sustained serious injuries.
Acting on Rakesh's statement, Nathusari Chopta police have booked the girl's brother Bittu Singh and his accomplices on charges of murder and attempt to murder. Bittu, who went into hiding after the incident, was rounded up on Friday afternoon, police claimed.
Jay's body was handed over to his kin after a post-mortem examination.
Jay, a resident of Dudhiyawali village, was a student of class XII while his girlfriend Poonam Rani (20) was a class X dropout. Sources said that when the girl's parents came to know about their affair, they withdrew Poonam from the school.
Jay and Poonam had decided to meet cladestinely at a place in the latter's village on Thursday evening. Bittu got a wind of the rendezvous and followed his sister. He and his accomplices reached the spot and attacked Jay with a sharp-edged weapon. Jay died on the spot while his friend Rakesh suffered serious injuries. He was rescued by the villagers.
Station house officer of Nathusari Chopta inspector Jagdish Kumar said, "The police have registered a case of Section 302 against Bittu Singh. He is being questioned for his involvement in the crime.''Link: Honour killing: Girl's brother kills youth in Sirsa
