LUCKNOW: A youngster fired at his girlfriend in Gudamba area on Thursday and then also shot himself. According to police, 22-year-old Deepak Soni, a resident of Rajauli village under Gudamba police station, shot Shivanshi (20) at around 3.00 pm opposite Chandra Polyclinic, located at Behta area on Kursi road.

The two were taken to the trauma centre at KGMU after the incident. "The bullets have been removed from their heads. While boy's condition has been deteriorating, the girl is improving," said one of the doctors who had operated upon the two. Soni carried a four-page suicide note in his pocket claiming responsibility for the act. Soni mentioned in the note that he decided to take the extreme step as even after years of courtship Shivanshi turned down his requests to elope and marry him. He held the relatives of the girl, particularly her brother-in-law, responsible for their failed relationship.

On Thursday Shivanshi had gone to a polyclinic to take some medicines. She kept avoiding Soni for past few days and he felt jilted, said Dheeraj Singh, in-charge of Behta police outpost. On Thursday Soni came to know that Shivanshi was in the market and decided to confront her. Shivanshi, told him to move on and turned down his proposal. "She was attached to her family members and left Soni for them," added Singh.

Soni also mentioned in the note that Shivanshi's attachment to her mother was the reason why she kept avoiding his requests to elope with him. He also mentioned in the note that the two wanted to end lives by consuming poison. Due to non-availability of poison in the local market he decided to use the gun instead, Singh said. On Thursday noon Soni reached the market and after a brief conversation with Shivanshi shot her in the head with a country made pistol. Shivanshi collapsed on the road opposite the market and people rushed towards her. Soni meanwhile, reloaded the firearm and shot himself.

Soni and Shivanshi stay in the same locality. Soni worked at Aliganj jewellery shop as goldsmith and had opened a small jewellery store in the Behta market just a month back. Shivanshi's family was also in the same business and the two families knew each other well. "The two grew up together in the same locality and were involved till sometime back," he added.
