SARANGARH: In yet another incident of rape, an 18-year-old girl was abducted from outside a temple and raped on January 1. Sarangarh police station has booked a case of atrocities, rape and abduction against three youths for abduction and against one for rape and atrocities.
Victimas family alleged that though the incident took place last month, due to resistance from police the case was registered only on February 2. One of the three accused identified as Goldy Nayak, 35, is said to be a frequent offender, who is the president of Youth Congress, Sarangarh constituency and also works as a freelance journalist. Due to his position, police feared filing a case against him.
We tried to lodge a FIR the day she returned, but police was not willing to file the complaint. It was only after we approached the superintendent of police that the case was registered, a victim's family was quoted as saying.
Other two accused have been identified as Bhimsen Banjare, 22, and Manoj Banjare, 24, two brothers who stay close to the girlas house.
The incident took place when the victim went to the famous Chandrapur temple nearby with her friends. aœShe was about to board the bus when the three youths, who were already waiting on the spot, abducted her and took her to Raigarh in the car,a Pramod Khes, town inspector, Sarangarh told TOI over the phone. He said that the girl was kept in captivity for three days at Bhimsenas relativeas room in Ambedkar Colony of Raigarh.
Accused Bhimsen Banajre raped the girl for three days and then the three youths took her to a temple and forced her to tie the marital knot with Bhimsen. Though police said that the girl didnat report the case after returning from Raigarh owing to the threats, her family alleged otherwise.
All the three accused are at large. Police have reportedly seized Goldyas Swift Dzire car, which was used for abduction. Sources, however, said that Goldy is in touch with locals and allege that police have already traced him but are not revealing.
